RULE CHANGE
Advance parole no longer shields you from the unlawful presence bars. Since August 13, 2026, leaving on advance parole counts as a departure. More than 180 days of unlawful presence can then bring a 3-year or 10-year bar. If that could apply to you, talk to an immigration attorney before you travel.

What you get
A Form I-131 package built for your trip
Your answers decide the request type, the fee, the mailing address, and the document list.
- REQUEST TYPE
The right request on Part 1
Part 1 lists more than 30 requests, and a wrong box can get the form rejected or denied with no refund. You answer a few questions and we check the box that fits.
The right USCIS fee
The fee runs from $0 to $630 and depends on the request, your status, and for advance parole, when you filed your I-485. We work it out and tell you when a separate parole fee applies.
The right mailing address
USCIS sends each kind of I-131 to its own address. Your filing instructions name the one for your request.
A document list for your request
Photos, ID, receipt notices, and the evidence your request needs, such as proof of the travel purpose for DACA advance parole.

Common questions
Form I-131 questions, answered
Request types, fees, timing, and filing.
It is the USCIS Application for Travel Documents, Parole Documents, and Arrival/Departure Records. One form covers advance parole, reentry permits, refugee travel documents, TPS travel authorization, and parole requests.
$630 by mail for most requests, or $580 where USCIS takes the request online. A refugee travel document is $0 for refugees and $165 for asylees ($135 under age 16). Advance parole is $0 if you filed your I-485 with its fee on or after July 30, 2007 and before April 1, 2024. Some parole requests also carry a separate parole fee, paid only if parole is granted.
Yes, before any trip abroad. Leaving without it generally ends your I-485. The exception is someone who kept H-1B, H-4, L-1, L-2, K-3, K-4, or V status and returns on a valid visa in that status.
Up to 2 years, or 1 year if you spent more than 4 of the last 5 years abroad. It cannot be extended. You file from inside the United States and attend biometrics before you leave.
Yes, for school, work, or a humanitarian reason, with evidence of the purpose and dates. Vacation travel does not qualify. A separate parole fee is due if parole is granted when you return.
It depends on the request and the office. Check the current USCIS processing times and file well before your trip. USCIS has a separate process for urgent travel.
Some requests, such as DACA advance parole and TPS travel authorization, can be filed online. A reentry permit and a refugee travel document are paper only. Immiva prepares a paper package with mailing instructions.
If you were ever in the United States without lawful status for more than 180 days, have a removal order or an open immigration court case, or plan to visit the country you fled. Travel in those situations can cost you your status, so get legal advice first.
Immiva's preparation fee is $99, paid after you see your completed forms. The USCIS fee is separate.
No. Immiva is software that prepares Form I-131 from your answers. It does not provide legal advice.
