LOST ABROAD
Lost it while you are outside the United States? Form I-90 is not the form to use. USCIS handles that case with Form I-131A, which lets an airline board you for the trip home. It covers a trip of less than 1 year. Immiva does not prepare Form I-131A, so follow the USCIS instructions for it. After a longer absence, talk to an immigration attorney.
What happened to your card
How did you lose your green card?
Each situation changes what you file, what you send, and whether you can file at all.
- 01
Lost inside the United States
You cannot find it. File Form I-90 and send a copy of the card if you have one, or a photo ID that shows your name, date of birth, photograph, and signature.
LOSTStart your I-90 - 02
Stolen
File Form I-90 the same way. USCIS does not list a police report as a required document, but a report gives you a dated record if someone misuses the card.
STOLENStart your I-90 - 03
Destroyed or mutilated
Burned, torn in half, or washed out. USCIS treats this as a replacement reason. Send a copy of what is left, or another photo ID.
DESTROYEDStart your I-90 - 04
Lost on a trip abroad
You are outside the United States and have no card to board a flight home. Form I-131A is the USCIS form for a trip under 1 year. It is not Form I-90, and Immiva does not prepare it.
ABROAD - 05
Lost a 2-year conditional card
A conditional resident can replace a lost card with Form I-90. If the card expires within 90 days, or already has, file Form I-751 instead.

The card never arrived
If USCIS got it back as undeliverable, the fee is $0. If it was mailed to your address and never returned, USCIS treats it as lost and the full fee applies.

What you get
A green card renewal package built for your reason
Your answers decide the reason on the form, the fee, the mailing address, and the document list.
The right reason on Part 2
Part 2 lists a reason for each situation, and a wrong one can get the form denied. You answer a few questions and we check the box that fits.
The right USCIS fee
The fee is $465 on paper or $415 online for most reasons. It is $0 when USCIS got your card back undeliverable, DHS made the mistake, or a child turned 14 with a card good past the 16th birthday. We work out which applies.
File online or by mail
File Form I-90 online through your USCIS account, or mail it to a USCIS lockbox. Your filing instructions cover both and name the lockbox for your case.
A document list for your reason
A copy of your card or photo ID, a name change document, or the original card with a DHS error, depending on why you file.

Common questions
Lost green card questions, answered
What to file, what to send, and how to prove your status while you wait.
File Form I-90 to replace it. Send a copy of the card if you have one, or a photo ID with your name, date of birth, photograph, and signature. Then keep your receipt notice. If you are outside the United States, use Form I-131A to travel home instead.
You apply with Form I-90, online through a USCIS account or by mail. USCIS may ask you for fingerprints, then mails the new card. Immiva prepares the form, picks the reason, and lists what to send.
The USCIS fee for a lost, stolen, or destroyed card is the full Form I-90 fee. The $0 cases apply to a card returned as undeliverable, a DHS error, or a child who turned 14. Your fee schedule shows the current amount, and we put it in your packet.
File Form I-90 and choose the lost, stolen, or destroyed reason. USCIS does not require a police report with the form. We suggest filing one anyway, so you have a dated record if the card is used by someone else.
Not with Form I-90. USCIS offers Form I-131A to a permanent resident whose card was lost, stolen, or destroyed on a trip of less than 1 year. Immiva does not prepare Form I-131A. If you have been away longer, talk to an immigration attorney. Form I-131A on USCIS
Keep the receipt notice that USCIS sends after you file. If you need evidence of status while you wait, USCIS may issue an ADIT stamp after you file. Contact the USCIS Contact Center to ask for one. Your receipt notice does not replace a valid card for most travel.
Yes, with Form I-90, as long as the 2-year card is not expiring. If the card expires within 90 days, or has already expired, file Form I-751 to remove the conditions instead. Form I-90 does not replace it, even when it is lost. See the I-751 page
Only if you plan to live abroad for a year or more. A reentry permit protects your status on a long trip but does not replace a lost card. See the reentry permit page
Immiva's preparation fee is $99, paid after you see your completed forms. The USCIS fee is separate.
